MONDAY, JUNE 30, 2026 - TOUR AGENDAS

The 2026 International Symposium for Animal Mortality Management is offering three unique field trips showcasing locations specializing in disposal and the agricultural industry, or wildlife rehabilitation or husbandry. Each field trip has multiple stops, is a minimum of 8 hours, and lunch is provided. Transportation is provided on a coach bus with a bathroom and free wi-fi. ​

Registration at the Holiday Inn starts at 7:00 AM ET. All buses will load at 7:15 AM and return around 5:00 PM.

Please note that open-toe shoes are not allowed during the tours. Tours are $75 USD added fee at registration.

TOUR 1

Join us for this trip which includes a stop at a local zoo to learn more about captive wildlife disease and mortality management, as well as visits to our local Wastewater Treatment Plant, an animal mortality composting facility, and finally, a real Wisconsin treat - a creamery and cheese store!

  • Stevens Point Wastewater Treatment Plant – Participants will visit an active WWTP processing millions of gallons of wastewater per day, producing a Class A biosolid, and discharging a clean effluent to our Wisconsin River. 

  • Wildwood Zoo – Zookeepers will lead a behind-the-scenes tour of this modest local zoo featuring numerous North American species. Zookeepers discuss biosecurity, disease prevention strategies, and mortality management in a captive wildlife setting. 

  • Organic Waste Connections – Participants will visit an active animal mortality composting operation that offers multiple services for the agricultural community. 

  • Seehafer Acres Creamery – Enjoy hand-scooped ice cream and shop for specialty Wisconsin-made products, including farm decor, honey, maple syrup, jams, candy, and of course, Wisconsin cheese!

TOUR 2

This tour includes a tour of an active composting facility, an active landfill with a variety of disposal methods, a tour of a wildlife rehabilitation facility specializing in treating native birds, and ends with a stop to get ice cream and cheese at a Wisconsin cheese store!

  • Raptor Education Group, Inc – Tour this state-of-the-art wild bird rehabilitation facility. REGI is dedicated to the care and rehabilitation of injured or orphaned native bird species and public education of wildlife issues. Learn how this facility manages biosecurity, treats avian patients of all kinds, handles carcass disposal, and interfaces with the public.

  • Hsu Growing Company – Participants will visit an active composting facility dealing with multiple feedstocks. The facility is also an high-end mulch and ginseng producer.

  • Marathon County Landfill – Participants will visit an active landfill that operates with an open phase, closed phase, composting facility, landfill gas facility, and a hazardous waste and recyclable site.

  • Feltz’s Dairy Store – Participants will end the tour with a visit to a wonderful local dairy store local novelties, such as cheese, cheese curds and ice cream!

Dump Site

TOUR 3 

Tour some of Wisconsin’s outstanding disposal facilities including a recycling facility, a landfill employing a variety of waste management techniques, and a rendering facility. The tour ends with a stop to get ice cream and check out a Wisconsin cheese store!

  • The Outagamie County Material Recovery Facility – Participants will visit a single stream recycling facility capable of processing 100,000 tons/year, along with a public Resource Recovery Park. 

  • Brown County Landfill – Participants will tour an active landfill that also receives rendering materials. An associated anaerobic digestion facility will also be toured.  

  • Sanimax – Participants will tour a very prominent rendering facility that produces all sorts of products. 

  • Feltz’s Dairy Store – Participants will end the tour with a visit to a wonderful local dairy store local novelties, such as cheese, cheese curds and ice cream! 

The International Symposium on Animal Mortality Management (ISAMM) is a collaboration of partners throughout the world who come together every three years to collaborate to tackle issues around animal mortality management.
